Myanmar and COVID-19: Impact on the Private Sector

Research and Reports

The COVID-19 pandemic of early 2020 caused a global contraction in economic demand and supply that saw hundreds of millions of workers around the globe stood down or only able to access reduced hours of work.

In May, BCGE and UN Women launched a survey to assess the impact of COVID-19 on employers and employees. Today, we are pleased to share with you the findings from these surveys in a report funded by Investing in Women, an initiative of the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The report provides an analysis of the impact of the pandemic on private business and not-for-profit organisations in Myanmar and draws on the perspectives of employers from 24 private sector businesses and 6 not-for-profit organisations as well as employees from 1 firm.
