The Rise of Impact Champions for Inclusivity

Stories

The “Impact Champion” initiative, spearheaded by BCGE, has marked a significant milestone in the journey towards fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the private sector and beyond. This innovative initiative emerged as a pillar of inspiration and change, to mutually benefit both the contribution organisations, who are recognised as Impact Champions, and the recipient organisations and individuals. It enables contributing organisations known as Impact Champions to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) initiatives within the private sector, thereby aiding in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of them. Simultaneously, it offers opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurs, as well as individuals and groups interested in promoting DEI agendas through various means such as training, workshops, and talks.

This year, in conjunction with our Membership Appreciation Event, we launched this “Impact Champions,” initiative which was not just a call to action but an invitation to be at the forefront of change, offering organisations an opportunity to be recognised as Impact Champions for their contributions to creating more equitable and inclusive workplaces.

From the initiative, 6 organisations rose as Impact Champions, setting a benchmark for commitment and action towards DEI. These champions are:

🔸Myanma Awba Group Company Limited

🔸Ayeyarwady Bank Public Company Limited

🔸Coca-Cola Pinya Beverages Myanmar Limited

🔸KBX – Microfinance (KANBAWZAX-MICROFINANCE (KBX-MF)

🔸Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Network (MYANWEN)

🔸Rohto-Mentholatum (Myanmar) Company Limited

Under this initiative, each Impact Champion will take a significant step by hosting a half-day training on vital Workplace Gender Equality, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (WGE and DEI) topics, such as Unconscious Bias, Respectful Workplace, Inclusive Recruitment, Inclusive Communications, Inclusive Leadership, among others. These sessions, reaching an audience group of 20-50 individuals selected by the Champions themselves, were not just training events but a catalyst for real change within organisations and the community at large.

We believe the Impact Champion initiative serves as a powerful testament to what collective action and commitment to DEI can achieve. It not only provided a platform for organisations to contribute to the upliftment of DEI within the private sector and community but also enhanced their reputations, stakeholder engagement, and long-term success by aligning with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As we look back on the success of this initiative, we are filled with pride and optimism for the future. The actions taken by our Impact Champions have laid the groundwork for a more inclusive and equitable corporate landscape. Their efforts have not only impacted their immediate communities but have also inspired a wave of change that we hope will continue to grow.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Impact Champions and all participating organisations for their dedication and efforts in driving forward the DEI agenda. For those who couldn’t join us this time, we will have our next call in the coming years for champions, so be part of the movement towards a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future!
