On the 3rd of May, the D&I Club empowered by BCGE conducted a workshop centered on the fourth and fifth subtopics, “๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ & ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐งโ with the focus area for 2023-2024, “Anti-Harassment, Anti-Bullying, and Non-Discrimination Policy.” The workshop drew active participation from D&I Clubbers who are HR and DEI professionals from BCGE member organisations.
Our interactive workshop guided by the adept facilitation of subtopic 4 group leaders, Ko Naung Naung, Ma Mi Mi Kyaw Htin, Ma Theingi Win Khaing, and subtopic 5 group leader, Ma Khin Witt Hmone Thinn along with support from BCGE coordinators, the discussions proved to be both insightful and engaging.
Summarising the discussions, several crucial insights emerged:
๐ธ The consensus among participants highlights the crucial need for a comprehensive and well-structured policy to establish a workplace that is free from harassment, bullying, and discrimination.
๐ธ During the group discussions, considerable emphasis was placed on incorporating key clauses such as definitions, scope, responsibilities, and compliant handling procedures into the policy, stressing the repercussions of omitting them.
๐ธ Addressing the challenges encountered in policy development, participants unanimously identified leadership commitment and technical capacity as major hurdles, emphasising the importance of raising awareness and seeking external advisory support to effectively navigate and overcome these obstacles.
๐ธ In terms of the objectives to achieve through communicating the policy, 36% prioritise ensuring a thorough understanding of policy details, 28% seek to enhance awareness of the policy, 25% prioritise ensuring compliance with the policy, while 11% aim to secure buy-in and support from employees.
๐ธ To strengthen understanding and compliance with the policy, 35% of participants believe that regular reminders and updates regarding policy changes are essential, 32% advocate for a feedback mechanism, 19% emphasise the importance of post-launch training sessions, and 14% consider audits or compliance checks necessary.
In conclusion, the workshop was a resounding success. Looking ahead, the D&I Club anticipates exciting plans in the coming months.
